Sunday, January 11, 2015, at 3:31 am, a magnitude-6 earthquake shaked Luzon, with state seismologists warning of possible aftershocks. According to The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, “The quake's epicenter was 43 km southwest of San Antonio, Zambales”.

The quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth 85 kms. The areas in intensity IV are Pasig City, Pasay City, Manila, Quezon City, Hagonoy, Bulacan, Makati City, San Mateo, Rizal; and Obando, Bulacan. As described by Phivolcs, an Intensity IV quake is "moderately strong." Also, the quake was felt at Intensity III in Tagaytay City; and San Miguel, Tarlac. Baguio City and Batangas City were in intensity II.

However, Phivolcs said that there was no danger from a tsunami since the earthquake was too deep and the magnitude is not that powerful to cause seismic sea wave.
